CHAMBER, RODEO ASSOCIATION AND LOCAL NON PROFITS
TEAM UP FOR AN “OLD TIME CARNIVAL”

NEWPORT, WA – The Greater Newport Area Chamber of Commerce and the Pro-West Rodeo Association are pleased to team up with local non profit community organizations to offer a family oriented “Old Time Carnival” as part of this year’s PWRA Rodeo festivities. 

In the past, Paradise Amusements’ carnival rides have been one of the Rodeo attractions but this year they will not be in attendance.  “The feedback we’d received from our local vendors and families was that the Paradise rides were too expensive and there weren’t enough of them to make it worthwhile. Then, at the eleventh hour, Paradise officials told us that they would require a $20,000 ticket sale guarantee with no reduction in ticket price or increase in the amount or quality of rides being offered.” said Chamber Vice President, Steve Shumski. 

The Pro-West Rodeo Association's Newport Rodeo is coming to town!  Mark your calendars for a whole lot of fun Friday June 22nd and Saturday June 23rd, 2012.  This year there will be an "Old Time Carnival" from 5-8pm on the Friday and 1-8pm on the Saturday, featuring carnival games, food & drinks, cotton candy, facepainting, balloons, dunk tank, pony rides, petting zoo, pie toss, basketball and more - the perfect way to get in the Rodeo mood! 

Vendor booths are on a first come, first served basis and this year we have lowered prices to be $50-$75 for non-powered and $100 with power for food, craft and other vendors or information providers.  Products for sale can be handmade, grown, or previously purchased for resale.  Prefer western or historically themed items, if not handmade.  Vendor applications can be downloaded here.

Newport, WA- The Pend Oreille County Economic Development Council (EDC) is calling for proposals for projects to help bolster the economic climate of Pend Oreille County. 

Organizations in Pend Oreille County are encouraged to submit applications for funding to the EDC.  These projects will be ranked according to current priorities.  Some projects may receive funds from the EDC’s direct account while others may qualify for public funding through the public facilities funds.

All projects should be able to clearly and effectively demonstrate they are ready to go with a well-defined scope, reliable budget and ability to implement soon after a commitment of funds.  Projects should demonstrate local commitment with public participation, a documented local need, in kind contributions, and enhances infrastructure needs of the community and county because it expands capacity and opportunities for economic diversification.

The Greater Newport Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the immediate appointment of Valorie Hein as the Chamber’s new Executive Director.  Valorie fills the position previously held by Barry Seward of Spokane, WA.

Valorie was previously the Operations Manager at Shanty, voted Business of the Year and Best Storefront in 2011.  Valorie was also a member of the Chamber’s Board of Directors, occupying an Executive Position as Treasurer.  She was an instrumental part of the Chamber’s inaugural Spring Gala that received rave reviews.
